Within the context of the nineteenth-century Spain, Catalonia highlighted by its artistic ties with Japan. The lecture will offer an overview of the interest in the arts of Japan and its consequences in Catalonia, through their public and private collections and its artistic influence among 19th and 20th Century artists.
PROFILE
Ricard Bru (Autonomous University of Barcelona)
Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona specialized in the study of European Japonisme and Japanese art in Spain, particularly among nineteenth and twentieth-century Catalan artists. Bru has curated several exhibitions on Japonisme and is author of books such as Erotic Japonisme. The Influence of Japanese Sexual Imagery on Western Art (Hotei Publishing, 2013) .
