We have English explanation part in this exhibition.

The Analects (Lun Yu) are a collection of sayings and deeds attributed to Confucius and his students. It is a remarkable book that is still widely read today. Prior to the Edo period, it was read by only a limited segment of society, such as aristocrats, priests, and certain groups of intellectuals. However, readership grew exponentially in the Edo period, including children who would recite the sayings without understanding them.
This wide circulation of the book resulted in the publishing of an extensive range of beginners’ textbooks in the Edo period, which were read as study aides for understanding the Analects. The presence of such study guides shows Japan’s unique way of dealing with the Analects ― a trend almost non-existent in China or Korea.
This exhibition is an unprecedented opportunity to observe these textbooks, allowing visitors to trace the steps that Edo people took in their endeavors to understand the book.
