UKIYO-E Demonstration!（Free）
－Experience printing Japanese Ukiyo-e with skilled Artisans!－

Time：10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.
Venue：Kokugakuin University Academic Media Center 1F Multipurpose Hall

Participate in the printing of Hokusai Katsuhika’s “Great Wave off Kanagawa” part of his Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji. Under the guidance of a master craftsman, participants will experience layering color onto the carvings, when completed this will be a special memento to bring home. Individuals wishing to observe the process are welcome. Prior experience printing Ukiyo-e is not necessary.

  Traditional woodcut print making is a composite art form in which the individual, specialist skills of artists, wood carvers and print makers are combined to create a delicate and beautiful work of art known as Ukiyo-e (pictures of the modern world). The world of woodcut printmaking is one of grace and warmth that is not found in any other form of printing. Through the skillful hands of master craftsmen of the Heisei era, this traditional art form has been inherited by the current age.  


The Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing
Japanese traditional woodcut printing is a very unique and original printing method. However the number of the artisans skilled in the technique of woodcut printing is decreasing. The Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing was established in 1994 in order to preserve and pass on these skills to future generations.
