Yamato Sovereignty and Kofun Tumuli
Symbols of Integration in Ancient “WA”-Yamato

Term:Sep. 14, 2019 (Sat) - Oct. 27 (Sun)

We have English explanation part in this exhibition.

What did the kofun symbolize? In this exhibition, we would like to present some clues to this question, by exploring the evolution of kofun as an enormous artifact that was perceived as more than a tomb, and by focusing on its relationship to Shinto funerals and ceremonial rites.
This Thematic exhibition is held by the Kokugakuin University Museum in commemoration of the Mozu-Furuichi Kofungun Ancient Tumulus Clusters in Osaka Prefecture as a UNESCO world heritage site in July 2019. For this special occasion, various items owned by the Museum and the University Library will be exhibited. Although artifacts unearthed in Osaka Prefecture are scarce, we would like visitors to experience the mysterious Kofun Period through these archaeological findings.
