We have English explanation part in this exhibition.

   Why Swords are Sacred
In Japan’s long history of deity worship, swords have been used to express deities’ powers as well as served as important offerings to them. In this exhibition we will trace their development as such, making clear the historical backdrop to the relationships between deities/shrines and swords. Topics include ancient rituals and swords as seen in historical texts (such as the ancient Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and Nihon shoki (Chronicles of Japan), as well as the medieval Azuma Kagami (The Mirror of the East), related legends, and samurai and shrine-related religious beliefs in the Tōgoku area during the medieval period.
